Ingredients
For 4 servings
- 600 gbeef sirloin
- 4 tbspsoy sauce
- 2 tbspbrown sugar
- 2 tbspsesame oil
- 4 clovesgarlic
- 1pear
- 300 gwhite rice
- 3 stalksgreen onion
- 1 tbspsesame seeds
Instructions
- Cook white rice according to package directions.
- Slice beef sirloin very thinly against the grain. Grate the pear and mince the garlic.
- Mix soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, grated pear, and minced garlic to make the bulgogi marinade. Toss the beef in the marinade.
- Heat a skillet or grill pan over high heat. Cook the marinated beef in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until caramelized.
- Serve the bulgogi over rice, garnished with sliced green onion and sesame seeds.
Cook’s notes
Slicing the beef is easier if it goes in the freezer for 20 minutes first. The grated pear tenderises the meat; a grated apple or a little kiwi does the same job. Cook in batches over high heat so each slice caramelises instead of stewing in the marinade.
