Looking for a Paprika app alternative?
Paprika has been the go-to recipe manager for years, and for good reason. But it was built for recipe websites, before most recipes moved to TikTok and Instagram. Here’s an honest look at where each app fits.

Disclosure: Buttter is our app. We’ve tried to be fair to Paprika, a well-loved app made by Hindsight Labs. Paprika details were checked against its website and App Store listing on October 18, 2026; prices can change.
Who Paprika is great for
Paprika Recipe Manager 3 is a mature, dependable app. You pay once per platform, with no subscription, and its cloud sync is included. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows and Android, works offline because your recipes live on the device, and comes with a meal planner, an aisle-sorted grocery list and pantry tracking with expiration dates. Its built-in browser saves recipes from almost any website, and it imports from older apps like MasterCook and MacGourmet.
If you mostly cook from recipe websites, plan meals for the week, use a Windows PC or an Android phone, or simply don’t want another subscription, Paprika is an excellent choice and you may not need anything else.
Where Buttter is different
- Social video recipes. Paprika’s importer is built around web pages. Buttter is built for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and Pinterest: share a post and it writes out the ingredients and steps, even when the creator never wrote the recipe down.
- Cooking from what you have. Photograph your fridge or pantry and Buttter generates a recipe around those ingredients, matched to your diet and allergies.
- Nutrition without effort. Calories, protein, carbs and a full breakdown appear on every recipe automatically.
- Your own shopping list app. Instead of a list inside the recipe app, Buttter sends ingredients to Apple Reminders, Things 3 or Todoist.
- Auto-sorting. New imports can file themselves into the right cookbook.

Buttter is iPhone and iPad only, has no meal planner or pantry tracker, needs a connection to save and generate recipes, and can’t import a Paprika export file. If any of those is a deal-breaker, stay with Paprika.
Moving recipes from Paprika to Buttter
There’s no file importer for Paprika’s export today. The practical route is to re-save the recipes you actually cook: open the original web page or social post and share it to Buttter. Many people simply keep Paprika as their archive and use Buttter for new recipes from social media. The two apps don’t conflict.
The short verdict
- Choose Paprika if you want a one-time price, offline access, meal planning, or Android/Windows/Mac apps.
- Choose Buttter if your recipes come from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and Pinterest, you want recipes from what’s in your fridge, and you’re on iPhone or iPad.
