Ingredients
For 4 servings
- 400 gziti
- 400 gground beef
- 500 mlmarinara sauce
- 250 gricotta
- 200 gmozzarella
- 50 gParmesan
- 3 clovesgarlic
- 1 tbspolive oil
- 6 leavesfresh basil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius. Cook the ziti in salted boiling water until just under al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic, then the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart. Stir in the marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked ziti with the meat sauce, ricotta, and half of the shredded mozzarella. Stir until well mixed.
- Transfer to a baking dish and top with the remaining mozzarella and grated Parmesan. Bake for 25 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
- Let rest for 5 minutes, then garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve.
Cook’s notes
Cook the ziti just under al dente, because it keeps cooking in the oven. Italian sausage can replace some or all of the ground beef. The dish can be assembled a day ahead and kept in the fridge, or frozen unbaked; add 10 to 15 minutes to the baking time from cold.
